But the pièce de résistance, you could say, would have to be one of the new books she received for Christmas from yours truly- Blue Moo: 17 Jukebox Hits From Way Back Never. This is one of Boynton's book and CD combos. Her stories put to music and sung by well-known musicians, actors, and a few of her family members thrown in there as well, I believe. We also own another one of her books like this- Philadelphia Chickens.
Okay, so why all this plugging of someone's work, you ask? (I promise, I'm not a paid spokesperson, but man, I would be good at it, huh?) I am taking this moment to publicly announce my adoration of these books. The Blue Moo book has provided hours of entertainment for me, the toddler and the baby this week alone. She'll dance around the living room spouting random words from the song, a few words too late, but she is just 20 months old, so I'll cut her some slack. Meanwhile, the drooly boy and I sit on the couch and bounce to the music. He has begun to laugh that whole-hearted, sincere laugh that only a 2 month old can, and it's often in response to my moving his arms in crazy positions to the music. (I've learned that when I bounce him above my head, I MUST delay my singing for a moment and shut my mouth... let's just say it took more than a few drops of drool landing smack dab on my tongue to drive that lesson home...)
So, Sandra Boynton, I thank you. Thank you for bringing smiles to my babies' faces. Thank you for giving me numerous avenues for belting out funny, dear, loving and silly songs in the privacy of my own living room with two short audience members. Thank you for providing my active little girl with many reasons to sit down and relish in the beauty of a book. Just priceless.
