wanna view some reviews? (how about a podcast?)

It's been a fun few weeks over at 5minutesforbooks! The stack of books that need to be read is really piling up these days, but I'm feeling so grateful for the opportunity to be exposed to so many new works, as well as to be immersed in a community of book lovers! I've had a few recent novel reviews, children's books posts, and today there is even an opportunity for you to mock me incessantly listen to a podcast of a book discussion that Jennifer, Lisa and I recorded about Les Miserables. Ready for the list?

*An essay about how books can help you reflect upon your own life, as part of the weekly series On Reading.

*A review of the novel Indignation by Philip Roth.

*A review of the nonfiction book The Geography of Bliss by Eric Weiner.

*A review of the picture book Black Diamond & Blake by Deborah Blumenthal.

*A review and giveaway (but sorry, the winners were already chosen... I'm a little late getting to this...) about a new children's series Ruby and the Booker Boys by Derrick Barnes.

*A two-part review of two memoirs by Firoozeh Dumas, Funny in Farsi and Laughing Without an Accent.

*A review of a novel that will be released next month, Laura Rider's Masterpiece by Jane Hamilton.

*And finally, the podcast about Les Miserables where you can hear my man-voice prattle on about the character of Javert, as well as here Lisa and Jennifer speak coherently of their takes on the central characters of the novel.

Wondering if I'm bugging anyone yet with my shameless plugs,

  2. I completely agreed with your review of "Bliss." You are an excellent writer (and thinker). Now I have to go listen to your voice.

  3. Keep plugging them because I love them. I just added a couple of books to my library list thanks to your reviews and once I get my monkeys to bed I am hoping to listen to your podcast.

  4. Man voice? What-EVER! At least everything you say has the proper number of syllables! Ha!

  5. You do NOT have a man-voice, and you can jump on the bandwagon as your other reviewing cohorts have and just call out the "big bad managing editor" on any unpleasant tasks.
