the effect of a kitchen radio and Morning Edition

A conversation that made me smile and cringe inwardly at the same time:

JAM: "Mommy, I was wondering- when i get older, could you and Daddy give me an allowance?"

Me: "You know, that's something Daddy and I have thought about a lot. Now's not the greatest time, though."

JAM: "Yeah, in the economic downturn, I know."

Me: (somewhat stunned into silence, then I walk over and give him a hug) "I love you, buddy."

JAM: (sheepishly) "I've been listening to NPR, you know."

Loving the big guy he's becoming,

  1. so loving this!!! I sometimes wonder if Zane is affected by the amount of NPR playing in our lives and then I caught him recently, playing with some army guys and he named one Ira! Go figure!

  4. Oh what a sweet guy. You are DEFINITELY raising the right kind of kid. I'd be willing for him to date Little Miss even. If she were like six years older ;)

  7. Hooray! another NPR junkie...can't start too young, right? I think Noah has a crush on Terri Gros after listening to her dung beetle interview over and over again.
