I got a little book review for you today, and yes, it's about a little book. The cool thing? This little book is packed with a whole lot of fun, and if you're inclined to gift little books, I'm going to go ahead and say that this one should be on your list. What I Know: Uncommon Wisdom and Universal Truths from 10-Year-Olds and 100-Year-Olds asks a diverse group of people from opposite ends of the lifespan spectrum to talk about topics such as integrity, friendship, believing in yourself and perseverance, among others. The result is 90+ little pages of quotes to make you think, laugh and wonder. It can't be denied that our society doesn't give reverence to our oldest and most experienced members in the same way that others throughout history and place have, and it also seems that children too often have an unheard voice as well. And therein lies the beauty of this book, because there's much value to be found in these voices. My personal favorite chapter is on parenting, where these little nuggets can be found:
"Your kids have to learn. Sure, they'll make mistakes, but you can fix them. If they don't learn quick, just take a chill pill and remember that they'll learn soon enough." -Tyler B, 10-year-old from Clermont, FL
"It's important to give your children the time that they need. Time is very interesting because when you're given enough time, you have the opportunity to take advantage of life's accidents. And you can help teach children to be prepared to take advantage of them." -Bob Boyle, 100-year-old from Los Angeles, CA
Ah yes, these folks all have something to say, and we should be listening up. What I Know releases today, and it's the perfect little book with big, big thoughts.
Sharing the book love,
This one sounds fun. I'll look for it for sure.
