now posting regularly

It may be late in the day, but I'm getting my weekly NPR post in right under the wire. (Like anyone is holding their breath!)  No worries- no rain, or snow, or sleet, or tantrumy children, or unwashed laundry will keep me from my self-appointed duty.

So, this week there's a cool assortment of stuff to choose from.  What might be most interesting to you?

  • "Before the novel, he was a mailman"-- Oh, a story about authors' day jobs before they were raking in the dough for their words.  Perfect!  Short interview, but a couple of neat tidbits.
  • "Measles Resurgence Tied To Parents' Vaccine Fears"-- Alright, I'm going to admit to a bias here- it really frustrates me that there are parents who refuse to get their children vaccinated at all to the host of commonly known dangerous illnesses that are highly preventable when immunized.  Go for a delayed schedule, fine, but not doing it at all puts everyone at risk.  This story highlighted this issue, although with a fairly calm approach.
  • "Report: Foster Kids Face Tough Times After Age 18"-- This story was one of those that makes me stop washing the dishes and stand still to just concentrate on listening.  The plight of foster children when they're suddenly on their own-- compelling and thought-provoking piece.
  • "Mattel, Hasbro Disagree Over Proper Nouns"-- Gotta wrap it up with a lighthearted piece.  I also read about this in the Washington Post today, as well.  All I gotta say is that I never realized there was an entire rampant Scrabble subculture!

Feeling the NPR love,

  1. Oh, honey. Pennsyltucky isn't a "might have been" - it exists. Just ask Hugeness about that. :D

  2. I didn't catch any of these this week, but I LOVE reading your quick gut reactions to the stories.

  3. My hubby always calls it Pennsytucky. Thanks as always for the reminder to listen to NPR at times other than when I'm in the car.

  4. The parents of a good friend of mine live in The Villages and she and they are obsessed with how great it is! My book club girls all joke about moving there together when we retire!

And, I didn't listen to the links so I'm not exactly sure what Trillian and Kellie are talking about but I have to chime in...my hubby calls where I'm from in PA Pennsyltucky, too!
