the posts that just keep coming

I like routines. I'm that person who keeps a master to-do list (typed), with daily sticky note lists to make it less daunting for my anxiety-prone mind. I like things that are predictable and regular (unlike my life with three wacky kids). In that vein, I've created some recurring bloggy features that probably bring more joy to me than anyone else.

  • mini book reviews, or a few of my immediate thoughts after I've finished a book. I've got 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, and even 2008.
  • mini movie reviews, or the same thing like the last one, but just about the movies that I've watched. I started this one later, so there's 20122011, 2010 and 2009
  • now posting regularly, or my weekly ode to the beloved National Public Radio, which is often the carrier of the only adult voices I hear between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm.
  • friday's five showcases five picture books that the kids and I have recently enjoyed, thanks to either our fantastic public library, our own book purchases, or the annual Cybils awards nominees.
  • nightstand notes/ wanna view some reviews, or yup, you guessed it, another 5M4B carnival-- well, just the nightstand part about sharing what is sitting on my bookshelf as upcoming reading is the official carnival part... the other half is my shameless self-promotion of my most recent book reviews on 5M4B.
        •  the kids are picking away, or another 5M4B carnival-- this one lets me share what books my kids are fired up about this month.
          • I read it!, or one of the monthly 5 Minutes for Books carnival-- this one celebrates the books I've read based on a recommendation from another book blogger.
          • a year of classics, or the final 5M4B carnival that I have participated in-- this one was quarterly, and I made a lame goal of reading just four classics over the course of 2010.  At least I tried- that's my motto.
          • this week's guffaws, or my semi-weekly post of the funny stuff my email and the Interwebs bring me.
          • blathering nonsense (about) lyrics, or my uber-dorky 13 post feature chronicling my favorite songs on the albums released by those cool, fully-clothed Canadian men, the barenaked ladies.
          • Before the SV Moms Group announced that they would be shutting down their organization, including all regional sites as of 7/1/10, I was lucky enough to have an eight month stint writing for DC Metro Moms.  My essays have been copied here to save for posterity.
