Whatcha all reading these days? That's the question we pose over at 5 Minutes for Book's monthly nightstand event. Please do share, won't ya? I don't know if you heard, but I read some books this month, including my absolute, hands-down, most FAVORITE book ever. Nah, I don't think I've mentioned it at all around here...Alrighty, last month I had four books sitting on the dining room shelf (my version of a nightstand, since I do most of my reading downstairs... by the time I stumble to bed, I'm too exhausted to read any more!), and I read three of them along with four others, but the Darwin book is still there waiting to be picked up for my online book club this summer. So, we'll consider that one still on the list for this month, and here's a sneak peek at what else is hanging around on the shelf as well:
The Legend of Vinny Whiskers by Gregory Kemp-- I've literally just read a few pages of this novel so far, and I'm not sure yet if this is middle grade fiction or more appropriately categorized as young adult. It sounds interesting, and definitely not like something that I normally choose. I'm trying to keep JAM in mind while reading as well, to see if it's something that's on level and appropriate for him.
The Wish Maker by Ali Sethi-- I haven't started this one yet, but I see that some of my online booky pals have also gotten ARC's of it, so I know that it's certainly out on the circuit right now. I'm refraining from reading any reviews until I've read it myself, but I have a good feeling about it.
Learn Me Good by John Pearson-- I'm anxious to read this one soon, to get another perspective on today's education system from an insider, a teacher of course! I'm wondering if it will be anything like a book I read a couple months back.
I Just Want My Kids to be Happy: Why You Shouldn't Say It, Why You Shouldn't Think It, What You Should Embrace Instead by Aaron Cooper-- I sought this book out after seeing an advertisement bookmark in a goody bag we picked up from a parenting web site's booth at a local minor league baseball game. I'm intrigued by the title, definitely!
Perfect Life by Jessica Shattuck-- A new novel coming out later this summer with a storyline description that sounds interesting and potentially rife with emotions and drama.
There are a few more on there, but I'm thinking that this is a good goal for the month's reading... we'll see how it goes. Feel free to give us a view of your own shelf by linking up at 5M4B or even just leaving a comment about the book or books that are getting your attention these days!
Back to reading now,
I love reading a bit about the hows and whys of your list.
ReplyDeleteAll these titles look promising! 'I just want my kids to be happy...' sure makes me want to read more.
ReplyDeleteI don't do very well at reading in bed either. A few pages, then it's lights out.
"I Just Want My Kids to Be Happy" sounds intriguing. You seem to be as voracious a reader as I am! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI will have to check out "Learn Me Good" - as a former teacher I love stuff like that! Thanks for visiting, and for tips on my daughter's photos!!
ReplyDeleteYup, the parenting book title is definitely captivating in and of itself. Looking forward to hearing your opinions on it!
ReplyDeleteMy mom would say, "I just want my kids to be happy" while they made horrible life choices. Sounds like a good book -- there are much higher goals than happiness that actually bring long-term happiness.
ReplyDeleteGreat list as always! The parenting book sounds like a very good read.
ReplyDeleteOooo, definitely let me know how that happy one goes. I'm intrigued by the title, too. Heading to STL this weekend, so I need to find time to get to the library and pick up some more books. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on your 'most favorite book ever'...I read it last year and LOVED it. Thinking about reading it again.
ReplyDeleteWell as you mentioned in your comment on my blog, I am reading Ella Minnow Pea. Theoretically at least. It's so hard for me to find even five minutes for books. Although I did just find five minutes to read your post and comment on it...
ReplyDeleteI like your list - it has an interesting variety! I hadn't heard of any of these books but they all sound good tome.
ReplyDeleteI have the strangest nightstand collection right now. Maybe I'll do it.
