now posting regularly

Well, I'm happy to be within reception range of my beloved WAMU again, although I'm not sure how much actual listening of NPR will be happening while our house is still torn apart from the major renovations hubby is doing.  So for the time being, I'm still relying on that handy dandy Facebook feed to give me my NPR fix.  Here's what I collected this week:

  • "Monet's Canvas Cathedrals: A Life Study Of Light"-- The first time I saw a work of Impressionism may not be specifically remembered, but I do know that for as long as I've been aware of this style of painting, I've been completely enamored with it.  There's a special place in my heart for Monet, and this Morning Edition story warmed that place and made me hope for (for the bazillionth time) a trip to France someday.
  • "A Life Goes Against The Plan, And That's Fine"-- Another StoryCorps piece care of Morning Edition- you know how I love these.  This one is interesting in that it's the story of a StoryCorps facilitator.  And of course, it's just as touching as usual.
  • "The Fourth Of July And Other Myths Of Independence"-- Oh, how I love when fact-obsessed people come around and debunk those things that we've all just always seemed to believe to be true.  This All Things Considered story is along those lines, although I do have to say that I expected a little more punch to the story than it delivered... nothing earth-shattering here, but a couple of "huh, how about that?" moments.
  • "A Musical Message Discovered In Plato's Works"-- I missed the original airing of this story on All Things Considered, but I did hear this topic discussed on a locally produced show on the NPR station I was sometimes getting in at my parents' house.  Very intriguing stuff here.
  • "Those 'Forever' Stamps May Be A Good Investment, After All"-- Now here's a practical story for you, care of Planet Money.  Stamp prices seem to always be going up, at least to me, and we've made it a habit for a while now to get all of our stamps at Costco, and we've always purchased those 'Forever' ones.  Looks like we've been smarter than we even realized.  (Now that doesn't happen every day...)

Raising a glass to NPR,

  1. I so had no idea the post office was going up in rates again. I already spend a lot of money mailing books and buying stamps for bills. I need to get some more stamps anyway and they will be forever ones. :)
