Yes, it was a crazy summer of surprise house renovations and an extended visit to my parents' that also kept us out of hubby's hair for almost three weeks. After that, we lived in the continued DIY-zone for many more weeks. We still have some odds and ends to complete, but the main level is pretty much back to normal. The upstairs, however, is another story. We've been cleaning out the attic, and many items made their way down Donation Drive, but there is still a sizable pile in our room of more "big ticket items." And then there's the upcoming Grand Bedroom Swap that will see Pudge finally getting his two-months-shy-of-turning-three patootie out a crib and into the bottom bunk in JAM's room, while Red becomes a sole occupant in the small bedroom, allowing her to talk and sing to her heart's content behind closed doors at night. (Without angering poor JAM who needs his beauty sleep.) That switcheroo will happen after hubby builds a fabulous loft bed he has designed. Woo-hoo! Another project! At least this one shouldn't take more than a few days, so we won't be sharing our living quarters with random tools for too long.
With all the DIY (which, coincidentally, could also stand for Dawn's Insane Year...), the stress level has been pretty high, and unfortunately the happy-go-lucky times have been sparse. Hubby and I are in desperate need of a "couples retreat" of some sort, but of course, summer has blown out of here, and we're back to school, back to life, back to reality. Reality around here takes the form of mornings filled with "You need to get up for school," and "You have fifteen minutes left- have you made your lunch?" The afternoons, I'm afraid, aren't much better with all the "Yes, you have to do your homework right now," and "You haven't finished your homework yet?" Ugh, I sound like a witch. Let's just say that transitioning back into the school year routine hasn't been completely smooth. For any of us.
Beyond the construction projects and the beginning of school, I guess my mind just wasn't in the game. I used to get instantaneous responses of ooh, I've GOT to blog that to things that happened in our daily lives, but that seems to have faded. I hope it comes back, really. I also used to get these seemingly 'deep thoughts' during moments of quiet or while doing mundane tasks around the house, thoughts that upon further reflection revealed themselves as not so much 'deep,' but often things that other folks could relate to. Those became my favorite blog posts, honestly. Mostly, I turned to my blog to work through things I was thinking about, almost like a therapy- write it out. I haven't had the urge to do that lately for the big stuff that's going on. I don't know if I suddenly altered my perception of 'privacy,' because ya'll know that I've tackled some pretty personal stuff on here before. There's often the thought in the back of mind of particular ill-intentioned readers, but thankfully that voice has gotten much quieter in the time since we've distanced ourselves from particular folks.
So, what is it? Was there a blogging bug that I had caught and has now passed through my system? Man, I hope not, because I've been happy (probably ridiculously happy in some people's eyes) to call myself a blogger. Not necessarily or exclusively a 'mommy blogger,' but a blogger who tried her best to be thoughtful, introspective, informative and perhaps from time to time, even a tad funny.
Some new projects are potentially in the near future that would call for more writing submissions elsewhere, but even so, I'm pledging, to no one but myself (for I do not have delusions of grandeur that envision hoards of readers!) to reacquire that blogging bug. If for no other reason, these silly little posts will someday provide a snapshot of what was going on in my head way back when. And really, isn't that what this blogging thing is all about?
Renewing my membership as a blogger,

I think I've lost the blogging bug as well and miss having it!
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm glad you have renewed your membership!
ReplyDeleteYou did have one heck of a crazy summer but I do hope the fall will even the pace out a little for you!
Now you know why we are so sporadic at our blog. Most the time I figure there's nothing to say. Luckily, you almost always have something to say and it is sooooooo entertaining. Couldn't be happier that you are back!
