word wall wishes

Okay, so think less of a classroom-type word wall, and head more in the literary direction.  Imagine with me, if you will, what I can picture so clearly in my head and hope to someday see realized. While we may have poured our hearts and souls (not to mention home equity) into our little townhouse over the last few years, we do have dreams of someday living in slightly larger quarters, allowing for the kids to have their own rooms, or maybe just a little more space for themselves in a shared room.  Selfishly, though, I have one very personal hope for our 'grown-up' house of someday-- I want my own room.

Not a bedroom, because I love my hubby, even if I do occasionally wake up to an elbow wedged into my eye socket.  (But maybe the someday bigger house will allow for us to get a King-sized bed!  Oh, the possibilities.)  Nope, I want my own room to serve as a library/den/office/for-the-love-of-god-leave-Mommy-alone-while-she's-in-her-room room.  It won't have to be very big, just enough for a couple floor to ceiling shelves, a comfy chair, a side table, a cozy lamp and a message board.  The back wall will need to be painted a solid, muted earthy tone, and will serve as my Word Wall

I'm not sure of the logistics of crafty supplies that will be necessary for this task, but I want to somehow fill the wall with the words that have amazed me from some of my favorite books.  I can't be the only one to get chills when reading an exquisitely crafted phrase or passage, right?  The words that make my breath catch are the ones that I'd include- the ones that I'm drawn to revisit immediately, or perhaps a few chapters later, the ones that inform the story, but also stand alone in their beauty.

So picture it- the comfort of the big chair, the warm light from the floor lamp, the heft of the full bookshelves, and the words of beauty and wonder as a backdrop for it all.  Ahhhh...

Someday, my friends, someday.

Happy just thinking about it,

  1. Reminds me of that episode of the Cosby Show where Claire gets her own room. Did you see that one? Now I have visions of you rolling around on plush carpet and locking your family out of your glory filled, word wall covered room. ;) (That would be fun!)

  2. can you do it? you totally should. I understand- I WANT MY OWN ROOM SO BAD!!! it's so far down the road as right now we have only 1.5 bedrooms for the 5 of us (our house is only 680 sq ft!) But someday we will rebuild....
