now posting regularly

Since I missed last week's NPR post, I should probably have a whole lot of NPR goodness to share with y'all, right?  Well, sorry to disappoint, but my radio hasn't been on a whole lot lately, so I've only got a handful of stories to highlight this time around.  But, they're good ones, at least in my opinion, so at least there's that.

  • "'I Love My Hair': A Father's Tribute To His Daughter"-- Please, please click over to watch the two-minute Sesame Street song at the center of this All Things Considered story.  Thirty years plus, and Sesame Street continues to be an amazing program for young children.
  • "One Man's Fight For A Same-Sex Marriage Law"-- Oh StoryCorps, there you go again making my eyes well up.  I love the straightforward voice of this piece's storyteller, and I wish him all the happiness in the world.
  • "Andrew Sullivan: Dishing It Out Daily For A Decade"-- Another All Things Considered story that interested me.  I used to have Andrew Sullivan's The Daily Dish in my google reader, but I have to be honest and say that it stressed me out.  He's so damn prolific that I got all freaked out that I could never keep up with the reading.  I'll check in every once in a while now that I'm no longer getting the feed, because even though we don't align perfectly on all issues, I am always impressed with his thoughtfully stated perspectives.
  • "Religious Undercurrent Ripples In Anti-Gay Bullying"-- I heard this story yesterday on All Things Considered while making dinner and I was floored.  Disgusted.  "A religious undercurrent to the harassment of teens who are seen as gay."  I'm so sick of people using "religion" and "beliefs" to justify mortifying behavior against others with whom they don't agree.  The irony of those who consider themselves to be honorable and good treating others with contempt and harassment is freaking ridiculous. Some of the quotes in this article are infuriating.  I'm seething.

Unfortunately, I have to end on that negative note, but I implore you to listen, really listen, to that last story.  Enough bullying-- from teens, from adults, from religious groups.  Enough.

Respectfully,

    1. Dawn I couldn't even get through the entire last article..I could feel my heart racing and the anger level rising. Insane, these people are totally insane. How do they get off thinking that their actions are supported by their faith?!?!?
