For the love of kids' books! It's time again to share what our children have been enjoying in their reading selections lately, and although I missed last month's link-up at 5 Minutes for Books, I'm back on board for this month's Kids' Picks. With Red and Pudge, the picture book reading lately has been almost-completely taken over by Cybils nominees. It's been lovely being able to fulfill my Round One Panelist duties while simultaneously getting in extra reading with the kids!
Here are a few of their favorites from our most recent reading:
One story that both of the kids could immediately relate to is Martha Doesn't Share by Samantha Berger and illustrated by Bruce Whatley. Yup, Martha is a big sister who just isn't all that fond of having to share her stuff with her pesky (and adorable) little brother. But when you don't share, you can certainly find yourself felling pretty lonely. Crabby Pants by Julie Gassman and illustrated by Richard Watson surprised me on the first read- I didn't see what was coming in this story of a grumpy little boy whose nickname of "Crabby Pants" takes on a new meaning!
Oh Brian Lies, we love you and your bats so! Bats at the Ballgame is his newest, and it's just as gorgeous and lovely and fun as the others. With an older brother who plays Little League baseball and even just finished up playing "Fall Ball," Red and Pudge really got into this book dedicated to the baseball-game-viewing experience. Two Heads are Better Than One by Michael Dahl and illustrated by Migy has also been one that they enjoy listening to and looking at on their own. I think the wacky images drew them in first, and the simple story keeps them engaged and giggling. As for the big kid, well... his shelf for his public library books is chockful of DK Star Wars books, as usual. He could read these again and again, and he does. I get it, even if I don't share his particular interest! One of his school library books right now is also a book that he's read before, but he enjoyed it so much that he checked it out again, How to Steal a Dog by Barbara O'Connor. I haven't read this one, but from the descriptions on the Amazon page, it sounds like the kind of book that I like him to choose- one with realism and a thoughtful topic. If he's picking it for a second time, then I believe that constitutes a rousing recommendation!
How about you and yours? What are your kids reading these days? Come and share it on 5 Minutes for Books' Kids' Picks!
Happy picking,

Crabby Pants? Lol!
