- "Liberals: Obama Doesn't Compromise, He Caves"-- In the constant news cycle, a weekly round-up post like this inevitably includes "old" news, like this Morning Edition one. But, it's still relevant since the saga continues. I'm torn... I feel disappointed and frustrated in the President's actions, but I also have to acknowledge the "tit-for-tat" aspect of this. I've heard the argument that if he doesn't compromise now, then the new Congress would take actions that would have worse impacts on all taxpayers in the next session, and that there would be no hope at all for the jobless benefits to be reinstated. Oh, the drama of politics. Why can't others see the ridiculous nature of extending tax cuts for the richest of the richest while denying unemployment to the people who desperately need it to simply survive? Bernie Sanders, maybe you need to be speaking even louder!
- "Steve Martin Isn't Predictable Enough!: This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things"-- This Monkey See blog post made me want to wag my finger (ala Stephen Colbert) at the folks who complained about Steve Martin. I would listen to that man read soup labels if I had the chance!
- "Happy Holidays, Voyeurs: Nancy Pearl Picks Memoirs"-- This Morning Edition story highlights the memoir Encyclopedia Of An Ordinary Life, which happens to be written by one of my very favorite children's book authors, Amy Krouse Rosenthal. The kids and I all adore her, and this book is shooting to the top of my TBR list!
- "Rolfing Back In Vogue, But With Shaky Evidence"-- Another Morning Edition piece, and this one intrigued me to no end. I think this massage style is just what I need... anyone in training and need a practice client??
- "How Gay Soldiers Serve Openly Around The World"-- Thanks to Fresh Air for this segment highlighting a new book about gays in the military. Funny how letting people just be their regular old selves while doing their jobs works just fine in some other countries...
- "Elizabeth Edwards Succumbs To Cancer"-- I heard the news yesterday evening as I made dinner, thanks to NPR. This All Things Considered tribute is definitely worth reading. So incredibly sad for a woman of character, dignity and strength.
Done complaining about my own troubles after a week like this,
