now posting regularly

Well, it seems that my NPR consumption lately only comes in extreme levels, either hardly any or an overabundance of incredibly fascinating stories.  This week, we're on a high again with many links, many of them bookish.  (Imagine that.)

  • "National Geographic Names 2010's Weirdest Newly Discovered Creatures"-- This short piece on NPR's news blog The Two-Way includes links to the full stories on National Geographic's site, and I implore you to follow these links!  It's impossible not to gasp out loud at some of these pictures and pieces of information.  What a wild, wild world we live in.
  • "Emma Donoghue: "Room""-- I've read and listened to more about this novel than any other lately, and yet I still haven't read it.  I've heard nothing but positive reviews and fascinating discussions about the story line, and I enjoyed the little piece that I heard of this interview with the author on The Diane Rehm Show.
  • "Crashing the Wall Street parties, WikiLeaks-style"-- I'm very gullible, let's just get that out of the way first.  Also in my defense, I was a bit distracted prepping dinner when I first heard this Marketplace piece, so forgive me for actually believing it.  Although I may have felt silly by the end, I honestly think this was more believable than we'd like to think.
  • "'Fool Self' Offers Serious Stories Of Teen Girls"-- I love when I turn on the radio just in time to hear a story about a book that I've read, as happened this week when I caught this All Things Considered interview with Danielle Evans just as it was starting.  This collection of short stories blew me away with its authenticity and strong character voices, and it's always a thrill for me to hear authors chatting about their work!
  • "It's All About Me: But Is Narcissism A Disorder?"-- Well, my first reaction to the announcement that narcissistic personality disorder might be dropped as a clinical disorder was consistent with what this All Things Considered story reveals as the most common reaction-- well, of course, otherwise the vast majority of the population would have to get diagnosed.  Yup, that's what I thought... me, the blogger/facebook addict that I am.  Go figure.
  • "Stop Me Before I Facebook Again"-- The headline is certainly eye-catching, and you've gotta click over to read this All Things Considered piece.  It's short, and c'mon, we all know you're wasting time online anyway.  :)
  • "But Seriously Folks, The Arab World Is A Funny Place"-- I found this All Things Considered story interesting and wholly believable.  Humor definitely is needed, especially in times of conflict.  I've always been a huge fan of stand-up, ever since middle school when my mom and I would watch "MTV's half hour comedy hour" together and bond over laughter.  Let's hear it for the spread of stand-up comedy worldwide!
  • "Kids' Books Make The Leap Off The Page And Online"-- While I haven't read them, JAM has loved each and every of the books in the series The 39 Clues, and I could see how the multiplatform experience appealed to him.  This Morning Edition story addresses this growing trend in children's literature, and it makes me want to read these books even more now!
  • NPR Books-- It's not a link to an NPR story, but to a new feature launched this week on NPR's Facebook page!  Oh, how happy this makes me-- two of my favorite things (and most blogged about topics as of late) come together in one place.  I've been clicking over to read several of their stories this week, and I imagine that links from their feed will appear regularly over here!  Yay for NPR and reading!

Thankful for my radio and my bookshelves,
