the world kept right on spinning?!

On January 5, 2011, I rolled my beloved netbook in a ton of bubble wrap and sent it off with blind faith to the fine folks at Acer hoping to see it come back much improved, since it refused to start up anymore.  I never thought it was possible, but I did actually survive nineteen, NINETEEN whole days without it.  (I can't believe I had that number incorrect in my first version of this post... I was so traumatized that I couldn't even read a calendar correctly and missed an entire week in my first calculation!) In those days, I was able to get online for short periods of time on hubby's laptop in the evenings here and there, but there was no way that I could keep up my usual level of online adventuring.

Tons of Facebook statuses went unread, and I hoped that no one made any earth-shattering revelations on that forum during my hiatus.  I didn't bother to update my own status, because what more could I say?

Dawn misses the Interwebs.  She's pitiful.
You may commence the mocking now.

Twitter?  Just as I was trying to get used to it, I disappeared without a tweet.

And then there was my little home away from home online, my blog.  I was compelled to write a couple of posts when I could hijack hubby's laptop, but it got to the point where I was just using that time to check email, write my Patch posts, post a few 5 Minutes for Books reviews, and scroll through my Google Reader (just because those rising numbers make me anxious... I'm crazy like that).  Blogging got left by the wayside.

When the FedEx man brought the package containing my little laptop to my door, I was beside myself.  But, as things sometimes go, the last few days have seen it getting put to use during the quieter parts of the day to assist JAM in finishing up his science fair project, so I haven't been able to make my Big Bloggy Return until now.

TA DA!  Here I am!  I'm back!  Oh, aren't you all so very, very thrilled??

I was chatting on the phone with my dad today, and with a giggle in his voice he asked me something along the lines of, "Have you had any emails from outraged readers since you haven't blogged in so long?"

Nothing like a big old dose of humility courtesy of your loving father.

So, I don't know if my 18-day blogging hiatus was even noticed by anyone other than me (and my dad, he's a loyal reader and he greatly missed my rambling, even if he didn't email me about it, I'm sure).  I'm not sure what I would have said in those days had I still had access to my bloggy forum... probably a little politics, a few funny kid stories, and perhaps a railing against a person in my son's life who has proven to be an utter and complete tool.  Maybe it was a good thing that I had to keep those thoughts to myself, especially on that last item.

On the plus side, when you're not blogging or minding other folks' business on FB (like my hilarious pal Jamie likes to say), you apparently have time to clean and organize a large closet, sort through a messy cabinet, mop your floors, do three zillion loads of laundry, clean two junk drawers, finish a series on DVD, lose 27 brain cells by learning all about the My Little Pony friends, hang out with some local mamas and delicious cocktails, and tweeze your eyebrows obsessively.  Fun times.

Who knows what the coming days will bring bloggy-wise, but I'm happy to be back.  And I'm confident that all over the world, readers are sighing a breath of relief upon learning that I haven't fallen off the face of the blogosphere.

Bringing joy to the world, one post at a time,

  2. I actually was thinking yesterday morning that I had not seen links to your blog or Pacth article, but I figured I had just missed them. Glad you are back with a working computer.

  3. I did check a few times to make sure it was still spinning (the world, I mean). I actually almost emailed you the other day to make sure you were okay, but then I remembered allusions to the netbook's failing health and chocked it up to that. :) Just know you were missed. I'm sending you a virtual "Welcome Back!" hug.

  4. I missed you too -- both here and on Facebook!

    Next time I'll remember to express my outrage. . . . :)

Actually I knew that you were frustrated and I had similar woes for a couple of weeks at the beginning of the month -- internet woes not laptop woes.
