friday's five

How about we do this week's book collection a little differently than usual? Let's just say that with a passed out and flu-ed up Mama, there was not a ton of reading that happened, and we didn't make our way to the library to check out new books. So, while I have one library pick to share, I asked the two younger kids to go up to the bookshelves upstairs and bring me two books that they love. Here's what we all came up with:

1. Ballet Kitty: Play Book by Bernette Ford and Sam Williams -- The first of Red's pick. Here's what she had to say about it: "I like this book because it has pull out things. And I like it because she didn't cry and just ask her mother to do it, because she could work to find it." It's a cute book about ballet and it's got pink everywhere, so of course she LOVES it.

2. My Little Orsay by Marie Sellier -- Here's Red's second pick, a book her grandmother brought back from Paris for her. Yup, it's fabulous, and I loved what she had to say about it: "I like this one because it shows all the real things instead of just making up a story. It's about a real museum, and I like the pictures that the guy put in this." I like this one because it makes me feel like I'm exposing the kids to more culture than just 80s television shows like Fraggle Rock.

3. My Big Truck Book by Priddy Books -- Did you guess that Pudge picked this one? Well, you'd be right! Here's his hilariously adorable quote: "I like it because it's totally big. Yeah, because it writes my name." (points to letters in title that match his first name) This book has been looked at more times than can be counted, and is clearly just perfect for Pudge.

4. First 100 Machines by Priddy Books -- Wow, shocking, but it's another vehicle book! Want to know why he loves it? "I like it because it has all of these pictures of every truck in the book." Well, obviously.

5. A Plane Goes Ka-ZOOM! by Jonathan London, illustrated by Denis Roche -- Okay, this one is my library pick and it's a timely read for us. I originally picked it up from the library in preparation of our family trip to Florida in May. It will be Pudge's first time on a an airplane and Red's first time that she'll remember. It's got some great noise vocabulary words, making it fun to read aloud, and it's certainly getting us in the mood for air travel!

So, there's a little peek at our bookshelves and inside my 3 and 4 year old children's minds. Fun!

Happy reading,
