bus blogging, chapter one

Yup, I'm on the bus. And yup, I've become the parent who has resorted to using electronic devices to keep my children from acting like complete and utter maniacs when we sit on the bus for 45-60 minutes each evening. Don't fret, the bus ride isn't supposed to be nearly that long, and I'm hopeful that the delays and crazy traffic are a side effect of the beginning of the academic semester. Perhaps when more folks stop going to class so diligently, the traffic will lighten up.

Every once in a while, the shuttle's free wi-fi actually has enough bandwidth left for me to hop on. Fortune is more likely on my side for this endeavor in the mornings than in the afternoon, but it's working, for now at least, while we ride home this evening.

What is there to say when blogging on a bus? I've already ranted and raved this week in my Patch article about the dog-eat-dog attitude about public transportation seating, so that's out. Thankfully, as of this moment, there are no fellow passengers who are in desperate need of an application of deodorant. (That is one of those situations in which you just can't stop a loud three-year-old from saying what comes to mind... "Someone stinks!" is lovely when shouted out on the bus by the child sitting next to you whom you're trying to pretend isn't yours...)

Tonight marks JAM's Back to School Night, in which we will hopefully be droned at in regard to school wide test scores for a shorter amount of time than in past years. We're finally the parents of the oldest kids in the school, and I'm shocked beyond belief by it. Not sure when that happened. It'll be nice to see some other parents in town who I've been disconnected from since my return to work, and we're trying out a new babysitter who I truly hope will want to come back again after tonight. At least again next week, when I get to be on the 'other side of the desk' for my school's Back to School Night!

So there you have it- a whole blog post about not much. But isn't it cool to know that it's coming to you directly from a bus seat?

(Can you tell that I'm really trying to embrace this whole new-life-thing?)

From the road,
