Ahem.
How about some NPR picks from the week, huh?
- "USDA To Require Nutrition Labels On Meat"-- This All Things Considered story caught my ear, but I'm not sure how this will affect me personally, since I'm (shamefully) not that much of a nutrition label reader in the first place. But I'm a dying breed, so I'm thinking that many, many folks are happy to hear of this coming change.
- "The Top 20 Top 10s Of 2010"-- Oh, I do love me a good list. This Monkey See, Monkey Do blog post lured me in with its promise of multiple lists. Personally, I clicked on the entertainment ones and found them mildly amusing. Lots to see here!
- "Cupcakes Are Dead. Long Live The Pie!"-- Why? I love them both so much, why can't they both be super-cool?? From Weekend Edition Sunday, some food trend predictions for you.
- "What Killed Thousands Of Blackbirds In Arkansas?"-- Oh my, this sounds scary. I hope they follow up with what they discover. Thanks to All Things Considered for freaking me out while I was cooking dinner the other night.
- "New Edition Of 'Huckleberry Finn' Will Eliminate Offensive Words"-- Yup, this is the article that's got everyone talking. Some of the words in this novel are words that I would not say aloud, but changing the words to Mark Twain's classic is offensive itself. This book captured the time in which it is written perfectly, and changing the language will lessen its authenticity. Unfortunately, we cannot rewrite history, nor should we attempt to do so to the best fictional portrayals of our time.
- "Swear Freely In Pennsylvania: It's Your #$%^&*^ Constitutional Right"-- Hell to the yeah! Now I'm happy to know that when I visit my PA friends, I can curse up a storm and not have to worry about the police! Ha!
Well, there you go, the first NPR post of 2011. Not bad.
Loving NPR as much as ever,
