online appearances

I was recently contacted by a reporter for Maryland Family Magazine, who informed me that she had come upon my blog when she was working on a piece about local bloggers.  When she contacted me, she was working on a story about "free-range" vs. "helicopter" parenting styles, and from what she had read on my blog, she thought I'd be a good fit.  (She was also apparently sold on trying out Steven Page's new album after reading this, so I'm quite persuasive it seems!)

We chatted on the phone, and I worried that I sounded like an incoherent idiot.  But, the piece has appeared online today, and I'm thrilled to be the opening to the article!  Although, I'm thinking I may have misrepresented myself about JAM playing by himself on the playground now, because it's certainly not a new thing, because he's been going off by himself or with a pal to the ones within a couple of blocks of our house for over a year now, at least.

Here's the article: Age-old parenting styles take on new names written by Laura Barnhardt Cech, who was quite lovely to speak with.  Thanks for the opportunity to talk about something that I value!

Shamelessly yours,

  3. nice article! our eldest is taking the bus to school by himself in the city this year. i guess that makes me free range. but i also am a bit of a control freak so i guess i'm helicopter too! maybe some of us are a bit of both?
